Dean Statham Opens Its Doors to Mothers in Business

Dean Statham Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, based in Stafford, are extending free advice and support to aspiring female entrepreneurs through a Women’s Enterprise Conference, staged by business networking club WiRE to celebrate Women’s Enterprise Day, on Tuesday 14 th November at Keele Conference Park, Keele University from 9.30am – 2.30pm.

Partner Susan Whiting, an expert on personal and business taxation, will be answering queries on anything from using domestic premises for business purposes to making the leap from sole trader status to a limited company.

A recent study conducted by Yellow Pages in conjunction with the London School of Economics reports that more women than ever are starting their own businesses and successfully combining entrepreneurialism with raising a family. It is estimated that one million women are running their own businesses in the UK, making a tangible impact on the British economy with a combined turnover of £4.4 billion. A third of these women are aged between 26 – 30 years and 74 per cent of women who started a business after giving birth did so when their child was under two years of age.

Dean Statham is forging close links with both WiRE and its new subsidiary project Opening Doors, designed to encourage more rurally based women to go it alone.

Susan Whiting says, ‘The practice has years of experience in advising start-up businesses and we’re delighted to be able to support WiRE and their members in getting their ideas up and running. Female entrepreneurs with young families face additional challenges in juggling their work and home responsibilities, however businesses run by women are statistically more likely to survive and, given the right opportunities and professional support, can really contribute towards the UK economy,’
